Generating Ideas for Your Blog

If you run your own blog, you know how difficult it is getting quality content on a consistent basis. It’s a process that takes time and creativity, and sometimes, coming up with good ideas in and of itself is a challenge.

We know what that’s like. We also know that part of the pleasure comes from the process. So, here is a selection of where you can look for inspiration!

  1. Library: The library is a great institution that is often overlooked these days. When was the last time you visited your local library? The rise of the internet has made people think they can find everything online – and while the internet is a terrific resource, your local library is a treasure trove of resources that you can’t get anywhere else. It’s also good for you to get out from behind your desk, because that alone may be what you need.
  1. Create a Weekly Feature: We sporadically do “Did You Know?” posts that highlight surprising statistics from the world of online marketing. If you’re in the financial services industry, you could regularly offer ideas about how people can save more money, or you can even do a weekly recap of financial news from the week which may impact your target market. The possibilities are endless.
  1. Video: In the same way that images are important for your website or blog, so is video content. These days, producing video content is much more accessible for the average person. You can create a vlog and talk to your audience about a topic you are an expert in.
  1. Where’s the next affiliate convention? If you can attend, do so, and it’ll undoubtedly open your mind. We regularly recap conferences we attend and even produce short videos, effectively combining both worlds.
  1. Social Media: Twitter is where you can check for industry leaders. What are they saying and what are people saying to them? There are thousands of thoughts and ideas expressed every day within your industry and one of the best places to find them is on social media.
  1. The latest bestselling business book. This goes hand in hand with your library. What can we learn from the latest bestseller? What is your take on it? What kind of insight can you share that is unique to what you write about?
  1. Then/Now Comparisons: Cranberry Radio has a podcast called SEO 101 that dates back a few years. It’s amazing seeing (hearing) how far we’ve come in less than a decade. You could grab a few things from that time period that have changed and write a post on that. It’s also easy doing an accompanying chart to make it more visual as well!
  1. Word Association: You start with three words and start writing down whatever comes into your mind. You’ll have quite a list after ten minutes.
  1. What are you good at? You’re running a successful affiliate marketing business (or, are on your way). So, share your knowledge with novice affiliate marketers. It’s always helpful when you’re writing a post to have a specific audience in mind and it’ll help you “formulate” the piece.
  1. Is your personal story of how you got into affiliate marketing a good one? This is something you can write about and share with others. This works better if you’ve established a bit of a following. If you’ve done something recently which might be of interest to your site visitors, share that story. We all know personal stories make for the most compelling – just make sure that they’re relevant.
  1. Industry Interviews: You’d be surprised how kind people in the industry can be. You may want to check out the popular bloggers and experts in the industry and send them an interview request. In addition, make sure you promote them via social and with your e-mail list; for a free interview, it’s the least you can do.
  1. Customer Feedback: We live in a world where our society loves to spout its opinions. So, take advantage of that by asking your site visitors about things you can do better or things that interest them. If you want something more formal, use Survey Monkey or another survey application.
  1. Google Trends: Do you want to know what people are searching for this week? Google Trends will help you. You can find a way to make those searches relevant to your business.
