How to Get More Traffic without Using Social Media
Affiliate Marketing is an industry that has expanded exponentially within the last few years. Anyone with an online presence can now potentially become an affiliate marketer, given that they are earning commissions from their respective networks. There are even social media affiliate marketers who go by the new, snazzy titles of ‘influencers.’ These influencers are paid to market certain products and services on their personal accounts. The catch is that they must have an adequate amount of followers; a subjective requirement that is determined by each company that they represent. This new form of Affiliate Marketing is interesting because every influencer qualifies as an Affiliate, but not every Affiliate is necessarily an influencer. Affiliate Marketing is a huge industry that expands across multiple online and offline channels, and social media is simply one small branch off of the conventional understanding of Affiliate Marketing. Even with the recent onslaught of social media influencers and relatively high conversion rates from social referrals, one can market his or her platforms without using social media at all.
Social Media ROI
Social media is a wonderful channel for more coverage and exposure, so one should always try to share and engage whenever possible. If it weren’t worthwhile, it would not have gained so many new influencers in such a short amount of time. We are in no way bashing on social media, as it is its own respected marketing platform. However, not every Affiliate needs to master the ins and outs of different social media platforms in order to succeed in Affiliate Marketing. Amassing followers takes a considerable amount of time that is neither necessary nor particularly high converting.
Another important factor about social media is that not all of your target audience is active on these various social platforms. Each social network is also vastly different in terms of how it is used, how it filters and prioritizes posts (the algorithm), and what it allows to be promoted. Take Facebook, for example. What was once a free-for-all marketing ground for affiliate marketers of all niches is now deemed as a “reachpocalypse” by experienced marketers. Facebook changed its algorithm to lower its users’ reach in order to gain more promoted posts. Even the loopholes, which include creating one’s own Facebook group and engaging in various other Facebook groups, are now highly monitored; limiting the user to only post a few times a day. Users who exceed that unspoken limit are immediately logged out for 24 hours, and if multiple warnings are issued, the user’s account gets permanently disabled. If Facebook were to be your main traffic source, then you would be in big trouble.
Focus on Organic Search Traffic
Rather than putting all your eggs in one very unstable and unpredictable basket (that is social media), focus most of your energy on driving organic search traffic. Yes, Google’s algorithm is also subject to multiple changes each year. Yes, you can still get penalized for violating the search engine’s terms and conditions. Still, you can bounce back just fine if you fix your errors and comply with the terms again. In other words, there is plenty of room for mistakes. As an Affiliate, this leniency is crucial for your early stages of A/B testing and experimentation. Although the algorithm changes frequently, its bottom line remains the same and is, therefore, a more stable and predictable platform than social media. In case you’re wondering, the bottom line is to display the most relevant and high quality websites for every single search phrase. Here’s how you can earn more high quality traffic with just SEO:
Content Marketing: Whether it’s writing blog articles or simply optimizing the content on your pages, content marketing is a great way to get your pages indexed by web crawlers. Be careful, though, because if your content is low quality, it might backfire on you! Take your time writing your articles to make sure that it’s worthy of being on the first page of Google’s SERPs.
Guest Posting: Guest posting might be a difficult gig to land, especially if you’re not particularly keen on writing, but many authoritative websites allow for paid advertising on their page. Try your hand at pitching for guest posts first, and if all else fails, create strategic partnerships with websites that might allow you to drop a link or two in your guest article.
On-Page Optimizations: Besides content marketing, you can also improve your SEO rankings by making your website more mobile-friendly and improving its loading speed. Both of these qualities significantly affect your SEO, so it will pay off to optimize them accordingly!
